Some of their articles are hilarious, some go too far in being crass, but the above article by Zito Madu at SB Nation does a good job summarizing the problem that football faces.
I'm amazed that it's still in the debate stage. The NFL would be well served to acknowledge and move on to the problem solving stage. Less pads? More pads? Bigger helmets? Lighter helmets? Fewer players on field per play? Limited number of plays per game? Flags instead of tackling? What is the best solution for the players health?
I propose more study of these and other possible solutions. Let's have baseline evaluations of all players at every level before each season and at the conclusion of each season. Let's compare how how different rules and gear have a measurable impact. And let's not wait.
